Blizzard of 1980
The winter of 1979-80 produced about 100 inches of snow. A blizzard at the end of March 1980 stranded cattle across the county. A National Guard Skycrane helicopter came to the St Francis airport on April 5th to pickup small hay bales from stacks around the county and drop them to herds as farmers requested help. The helicopter flew all day and had to make a trip to Goodland to refuel at noon. A helicopter from a Denver TV station was also here that day to cover the operation.
